Our faith calls us to follow Jesus Christ’s example and serve others as He did during his ministry on Earth. Throughout the program year, youth (and their families) will be called upon to complete service to others through involvement in various opportunities offered by the parishes. The amount and caliber of projects we can offer is dependent largely on parent involvement and availability of consistent volunteers. While registering your child for our faith formation program, please prayerfully consider joining one of our existing or desired service opportunities in a leadership capacity, to ensure we can offer new, exciting, and impactful opportunities for our parish families.
Altar Serving, Youth Lectoring, and our Blessing Bags for the Homebound ministry are great opportunities for our parish youth to become active members in our church communities.
1. Altar serving is a great opportunity for our youth to experience the Mass as an active participant, to develop life skills (such as responsibility, serving others, self-confidence, punctuality, and teamwork), and to become a part of the Church community. It also gives youth a greater appreciation for the Mass and a better understanding of the different parts of the Mass (and why we use certain symbols, gestures and responses).
Youth in grades 3 & up, who have received First Eucharist, are eligible to altar serve.
Altar Servers will be assigned to Masses at both Blessed Sacrament and St. Mary parishes based on availability and necessity. Training is provided.
To sign up or request more information, please select from Blessed Sacrament Parish or Saint Mary Parish.
2. Youth Lectors proclaim the Welcome, First and Second Readings, Prayers of the Faithful, and any end-of-Mass Announcements during our 930am Mass at Blessed Sacrament each Sunday morning (October through June) and at other liturgical celebrations throughout the year. Lectoring is another great opportunity for our youth to become active participants in the Mass and to develop life skills such as self-confidence, public speaking, teamwork, punctuality and more.
At Blessed Sacrament Parish, youth in grades 3 & up, who have received First Eucharist, are eligible to join us at the 930am Family Mass celebrated each Sunday morning (October through June).
At Saint Mary Parish, youth who have been Confirmed are eligible to join the lector program and may sign up to lector during their preferred Mass timeslot (Saturday 4pm, Sunday 730am, Sunday 9am, or Sunday 1130am).
Training is provided for all new lectors.
To sign up or to request more information, please click on the parish of your choice, Blessed Sacrament or Saint Mary.
3. Blessing Bags for the Homebound (seasonal-- Christmas and Easter) is a ministry for our youth to show their appreciation for our elder and homebound parishioners. From decorating gift bags and sorting the gifts, to stuffing the bags full of goodies and delivering them to our homebound parishioners, there's a way for all of our candidates to join in the fun and be a part of this treasured ministry! Previously only open to our Confirmation Year One & Two candidates, this opportunity is now open to all youth in grades 4 & up.
Christmas Blessing Bags, Saturday, December 14th, 10am-12pm. Sign up HERE.
