Scheduling a Baptism

Group Baptisms are celebrated on the second Sunday of the month at 1pm at St. Mary Parish and the third Sunday of the month at 12:30pm at Blessed Sacrament Parish, except during Lent. Please refer to the parish calendar for the dates. 

Baptismal Preparation Classes are held in the Blessed Sacrament Community Room, generally on the first Monday of every other month (please check the parish calendar for dates) at 7:30pm. Parents are expected to participate in a baptismal preparation session prior to their child's baptism. Godparents are encouraged, but not required, to attend.

The standard offering for a Baptism is $150 per child.

Sponsors/Godparents

The role of baptismal sponsors and godparents (the names are interchangeable) is to help the parents fulfill their responsibility as Catholic Christian parents. This means that parents and godparents should provide the child with the opportunity to grow in his or her knowledge of the Catholic Christian faith, and to encourage their participation in the life of their faith community. Clearly, this is a role that continues long after the Baptism ceremony itself.

Baptismal sponsors must be

• a confirmed Catholic
• living a life befitting the role of a sponsor
• not a parent of the person being baptized
• ordinarily, at least sixteen years of age

To best fulfill this role, a sponsor or godparent must be a confirmed Catholic.

It is the responsibility of the parents to choose sponsors who are suitable for this role. Only one sponsor is required.

When circumstances warrant, a baptized Christian of another denomination may replace one of these sponsors as a witness of the Baptism. If this is done, there must also be a Catholic sponsor who has received the Sacrament of Confirmation and who can execute the full role of a sponsor.
